The Unwanteds by Lisa McMann

It’s been a while since I’ve read a kids book so I decided to give this one a try. It is in the 9 to 12 year old section. The cover had a review stating that it was a mixture of Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. Now, if there’s something you need to know about me, it’s probably the fact that I am mega obsessed with Harry Potter. If something is compared to Harry Potter it better be good and my expectations are high.

This book however, didn’t do as well as I had imagined. It was good, don’t get me wrong. The story was based on an entire magical world that was hidden from everyone but the Unwanteds and other magical beings. That part was a little like Harry Potter. It was very well written and the story wasn’t too rushed. I guess I just haven’t read a kids book in a while and I forgot how rated G those books were. There was no graphic killing, no blood and guts, not even one swear word. I’d recommend this to any parent who has kids that enjoyed the Harry Potter series.

6 out of 10.
